The Enduroman 5-Iron takes you across an extremely demanding bike course on open roads and a run course along a challenging and undulating trail.  Instead of athletes choosing when to sleep, the race dictates that solo athletes will not compete from between 3 hours before first light and first light.  This also ensures the safety of the athlete out on the courses.

Itinerary

Day 1 12 Mile swim in a 25m pool.  Wetsuits Permitted.

Days 2-5 3 days of cycling 160 miles per day (one out and back lap)
1 day of cycling 80 miles.

Days 6-7 131 mile run continuously over 2.5 days.

Cut-offs:

Swim:  11hrs
Bike days 2-4:  21hrs
Bike day 5:  11hrs
Run:  60hrs.

An athlete that does not make the cut-off on ANY day will be withdrawn, and will not under any circumstances be allowed to continue the race.

Athletes will be fully self-supported, with their own support vehicle and support crew for the entire swim, bike and run stages.  The Enduroman race director will act as both official, and navigator.

(If you think that you may not make the cut off for any of the days listed above, then do not enter this event).

Due to adverse weather conditions and terrain in the area, Enduroman reserves the right to alter routes, distances or disciplines of any day.

Logistics

The day before the race start:

Athletes arrive at the campsite near Fowey, register with Enduroman and attend the compulsory race brief with the Enduroman official.  Details for the campsite can be found at www.penhale-fowey.co.uk.  The athlete will be responsible for any campsite fees.

Day 1 - The swim:
Athletes will drive to the swimming pool at Bodmin which is 10 miles from the campsite and commence their 12 mile swim at first light (around 6.00am - 6.30am), finishing in 11 hours or less.  Support crews will then drive the athlete back to the campsite.

Days 2-5 - The bike:

(This link shows distance elevation, and an interactive display of the course.  It is also possible to download a Google Earth file).

Starting at first light, athletes will cycle 160 miles on a 1-lap out-and-back course.  The route will start and finish from the campsite near Fowey, and must be completed in 21 hours or less. Be prepared for this bike course. It is one of the toughest courses in the world. You have been warned!

From Fowey, the course heads, up the famous St Austell bypass climb, through Roche to join the coastal roads on the north coast at Portreath.

The course then passes through Hayle, St Ives, St Just to the turnaround point at Lands End. On 4th and final day of the bike, the course will finish at Land's End, support crews will transport the athletes back to the campsite.

Days 6-7 - The run:

Starting at first light, athletes will run 131 miles on a 10-lap out-and-back course.  The route will start and finish from Polkaris Beach and must be completed in 60 hours or less.

The run course will be held on the South West Coast path.  This is a very demanding and undulating trail with breathtaking views of the coast line and the Atlantic Ocean.  You need to know that this is going to be tough.  Really tough. But after all...  this is Enduroman!

South West Coast Path

The athlete village for the run will be at Polkerris.  Here support crews can set up, waiting for their athletes to return after each lap.  Enduroman will be using the grounds of the Polkerris Beach Company.

On site will be a cafe providing hot and cold food and drinks (and Cornish pasties of course!)  Polkerris Beach Company provide water sport facilities and there is a public house and sea food restaurant immediately next to the athlete village.  With access to the private beach for all support crews and spectators, there will be plenty to occupy support crews, families and children.

From Polkerris runners will head west along the coastal path, along Par Beach (pictured above - right), up over Carlyon Bay golf course (below - left) to the turn-around point at Charlestown.  Athletes will then retrace their steps back to Polkerris to complete each lap.

The run course is multi-terrain involving trails, grass, tarmac paths, woodland and sand.  In inclement weather the course can become muddy in places and the weather can be unpredictable at best.

Both bike and run courses can be described as breathtaking, extremely challenging and hardcore which will test all the challengers to their endurance limits.
