Julian Crabtree Monday 30th July 2007 -
A2A Race Report by Eddie Ette

Julian Crabtree was the first of two endurance athletes to complete the solo Enduroman Arch to Arc 2007.

On Monday 30th July at 1 50pm watched by a sky camera crew and supporters Julian starts the first leg to run from the Marble arch to the coast at Dover. This leg was to prove the most arduous as very shortly into the run he twisted his knee stepping from a kerb. True to character with no complaints he finished the run in a time of 28 hrs 29 mins at 6 19 pm on 31st July.

The swim start planned for appprox 10am the next morning 1/8/07 did not start until 12 17pm due to no fault of Julian. We started at the western edge of Sanfire Hoe on a bright
sunny dayand light NE breeze. During the swim the breeze strengthened and made conditions bumpy.

Julian dealt with this easily and touched land at Wissant at 02 14 on Tuesday 2/8/07 A time of 13hrs 57mins a little slower than expected but conditions were not easy.

After only 5hrs 45 mins about an hour of which was in the boat getting to Calais, Julian was on the bike. True to form he kept a constant pace, very few stops and no complaints. At about the 100 mile mark he mentioned he felt dizzy. After a stop with hot food and a short sleep all was ok and off we went to finish at the Arc de Triomphe Paris in a time of 21 hours and 29 mins.

The total time of Julian’s Arch to Arc was 87 hours 36 mins this takes into account rest needed and forced stops, due to weather etc.

Three years ago Julian first approached Enduroman wishing to take up the solo challenge. After two aborted attempts due to bad luck, Enduroman are proud to announce Julian Crabtree is an Enduroman and above that a friend.

Times: Run: 28.29 Rest: 17.59 Swim: 13.57 Rest: 05.43 Cycle: 21.29
