EVENT DESCRIPTION
RUN
STAGE
The run
stage starts and finishes from the Enduroman Villa near Playa Blanca.
The 45 mile course is nothing short of spectacular, taking in the views
of the El Golfo volcanoes, Fire Mountain, the Red Mountain, Playa Blanca
sea front and the Femes Mountains. It is entirely on road and
trails. Enduroman will provide and drive the support vehicle for
your crew (max of 2 plus athlete).
In hours of reduced visibility, runners MUST wear a high vis bib / vest and
carry a white light to the front and a red light to the rear. Bike
lights are ideal.
SWIM STAGE
Athletes
can have a maximum of 5 hours recovery between the end of the run stage
and the start of the swim. This is to ensure the health and safety
of the athlete. An ultra distance run in these conditions can lower the
body core temperature and it may be dangerous for some athletes to attempt a swim in the
cold waters of the Atlantic before giving the body the chance to
recover. There is however, no minimum limit to T1. The
Enduroman official will have the final say as to whether an athlete is
fit enough to start the swim.
Athletes
will be then be conveyed by vehicle to the swim start. The 11 mile
swim course is on multiple laps around Playa Blanca bay. The sea
state is unpredictable, and the constant winds of Lanzarote ensure that
swell and the waves are an added challenge to the distance. As
pictured above, there are various feeding points that Enduroman or your
support crew can feed you at. Wetsuits are permitted, but are not
compulsory.
BIKE STAGE
Again
the maximum time between the swim and the bike is 5 hours.
Athletes will conveyed by vehicle back to the Enduroman villa where the
bike will start and finish. The 80 mile bike course crosses Fire
Mountain to the Miradore Del Rio; the infamous high point of the island
before returning to Playa Blanca. Enduroman will again provide the
support vehicle.
Do not be fooled by the distance of the bike stage. The Enduroman
format of run / swim / bike, ensures that every pedal stroke
feels ultra distance.
