Part of the Enduroman European Ultra Triathlon Championships
Including the Deca, Quintuple, Triple, Double, 1 x Enduroman,
Half & 100 UltraMarathon
1st
June - 10th June 2012
RACE CENTRE
The race centre has changed for 2012. Although camping will
still be allowed on the football pitches, the aid station, Enduroman
HQ, timing team, grandstand (which will be covered at the sides and
overhead to house support crews), medical point and finish area will
be located at the Avon Tyrrell centre (Turning Circle).
Overlooking
the race centre is the main house, which hosts the main
accommodation, canteen, medical facilities, toilets and showers and access to 24/7 hot
water.
SWIM STAGE The
swimming stage will take in the
private lake inside the grounds
of the estate. Athletes will swim multiple laps around the
lake which is located only 200m from the campsite and the race
centre. Each Iron distance will be 13 laps around a 295m
course.
Athletes are required at leave a spare pair of trainers next to the
lake or with support crew to use for the 100m run along the grass /
gravel path into T1.
BIKE STAGE
Click here for Interactive Map of the bike route
1 x Enduroman: 10 Laps (Per Day for Quintuple and Deca athletes)
Half Enduroman: 5 Laps
Double Enduroman: 20 Laps
Triple Enduroman: 29 Laps
Remember that the bike course
goes through the New Forest. Extra care and slow speed is
required through the village of Burley as there are lots of walkers
both on the roads and footpaths. Wild horses, bulls and the
occasional Enduroman will be also found on the course!
T1: Whilst you swim, your bike kit can either be left next to
your bike (waterproofed), or with your support crew. There
will be no changing marquee next to the lake or in T1 as athletes
wishing a longer transition will have use of the main building next
to the bike start.
The bike course is a looped 11.6 mile
course, with left turns only, on the open roads within the New
Forest (NOT CLOSED TO TRAFFIC). The laps have been kept
short to create the safest possible environment for the athletes.
One aid station will be present at the race centre. Athletes
will need to have front and rear bike lights fitted that conform
to British Standards when racking. Once the inspecting official
is happy with the standards of your lights when racking, you may remove them until
the hours or darkness. During dark hours athletes must wear a fluorescent
bib (runner’s type). Cyclists are encouraged to display multiple
lights - better to be safe than sorry.
 |
There will be one aid station located at the race centre. High
5 sports drink and water will be available. Athletes will use
their own sports bottles. If athletes need bottles
replenishing at the aid station, cyclists must stop, hand their bottles
to the marshals on the aid station who will refill the bottles for
them.
Athletes must keep a florescent bib in their event bags (or will
their support crew). In hours of reduced visibility, cyclists
MUST wear this bib / vest.
On completion of the bike course, athletes must notify an official that they have completed the bike course.
The official with then confirm with the electronic timing officials
that the athlete has indeed completed all the bike laps. The
athlete will then enter the tennis courts to rack their bikes or
pass their bike to an official who
will then re-rack the athlete’s bike for them. Athletes may
again use
the main house as T2 (keeping their run kit with their support
crews). Athletes will notify an Enduroman official before
starting the run course.
It
is vital, that athletes carry sufficient spare batteries with them
whilst on the bike. As per the Road Traffic Act and the Highway
Code, cyclists must not ride with defective lights.
IT IS A
CONDITION OF ENTRY THAT SUPPORT CREWS POSSESS SPARE FRONT AND REAR
BIKE LIGHTS PLUS BATTERIES.
RUN STAGE

1 x Enduroman: 24 Laps (Per Day for Quintuple and Deca athletes)
Half Enduroman: 12 laps
Double Enduroman: 48 Laps
Triple Enduroman: 72 Laps
100 UltraMarathon: 91 Laps
The 1.1 mile run course is entirely closed to traffic, around the trails
within the private estate.
There is only a 25m stretch of tarmac, the remainder of the course
is woodland paths and trails.
The run course has changed from 2011.
Please see the image below. The run course starts and the
finish area is located at Avon Tyrrell Centre (Turning Circle).
Other changes are that the course stays to the left side of the
football pitches instead of cutting through the centre where the old
finish line used to be. Also, at the end of the run course,
instead of entering the turning circle through the same gate as
2011, approximately 20m before the circle, athletes will turn left,
then right, right again, and enter the turning circle through an arch
(see yellow marked route below).

You will need torches both for the bike and run routes. (Single
athletes may require lights for the run phase, Half athletes will
not require lights).
Athletes will run the last lap in reverse. This will give
everybody out of the run course the opportunity to identify a
finisher and congratulate them in the usual Enduroman style.
SAFETY
Bring strong bright lights for the dark
night. The light is for you to see the road as well as being seen
and it will give you confidence. Be safe and bright. You will
need a head torch for the run, or alternatively carry your bike
lights
 |
Have wet gear as it could rain, wear sun cream during the day and be
prepared for the night. Most athletes that drop out from the
race do so between 2am and 5am so factor this into your training.
You need to eat healthy substantial meals throughout the
competition. Sports nutrition products WILL NOT be enough.
Those that have completed an Ironman distance race will know that
the body starts to reject sugars after about 5-6 hours. This
is the time when your body will try and convert fat to fuel.
Keep hydrated with a weak sports drink throughout but remember that
your body will crave salt and fat. This is because your body
is depleted in these areas - so eat it. Train and fuel SMART!!!!
